Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is well known as a green and excellent tail end technology for the treatment of various organic wastes, especially the hazardous wastes, which is tough for conventional technologies. The hazardous waste contains some inorganic salts and anions, which easily leads to the clogging and corrosion problems in SCWO, and has further hindered the industrialization process of this technology. A novel SCWO reactor was designed based on various fundamental researches, including the degradation law of organic pollutants, salt deposition characteristics, and corrosion characteristics during the supercritical water oxidation of real hazardous waste. The reactor was named as the inclined plug-flow reactor. It performs well in anti-clogging, anti-corrosion, ensuring sufficient residence time, waste heat recovery,etc.Moreover. A bench-scale SCWO apparatus with a capacity of 2 L/h was established. Industrial sludge with an ash content of up to 30 wt.% was continuously treated successfully. The total organic content in effluent is as low as8 mg/L, and the organic removal efficiency is up to 99.96%
