Instrument Selection Guidelines for Explosion Hazardous Areas

 

Solvent extraction and supercritical high-pressure workshops are classified as flammable and explosive hazardous areas. The selection, installation and wiring of all electrical instruments must comply with strict standardized explosion-proof requirements. In actual project acceptance, many production lines fail inspection or face rectification risks due to mismatched instrument explosion-proof grades, even if the main equipment meets safety standards.

 

The core principle of instrument selection in hazardous areas is grade matching. All field instruments must be selected according to medium hazard levels and regional classification standards. Conventional civil general-purpose instruments are prohibited from being used in C1D1 plant extraction workshops with flammable solvent vapor to avoid ignition risks caused by electrical sparks.

 

Explosion-proof instruments are mainly divided into flameproof (Ex d) and intrinsically safe (Ex i) types with distinct application scenarios.

 

Flameproof instruments are suitable for fixed detection positions under high-vibration, high-temperature and high-pressure working conditions, featuring strong anti-interference performance and stable operation. Intrinsically safe instruments are applied to low-power precision sensor signal terminals with low heat output to minimize ignition risks.

 

Temperature rise class, IP (Ingress Protection) rating and standard wiring specifications are also key selection indicators. All field instruments in explosion-proof areas must be equipped with matching explosion-proof junction boxes, safety barriers and sealing connectors to prevent exposed wiring and spark generation. Instrument materials need to adapt to humid and solvent-corrosive workshop environments to avoid aging failure and signal loss.

 

A scientific zoning selection method shall be adopted in project implementation: high-grade explosion-proof instruments are mandatory for extraction tank areas, solvent storage areas and concentration explosion-proof zones, while auxiliary areas adopt economical matching configurations to balance safety compliance and cost control. Standardized instrument selection ensures stable system signal transmission, avoids production shutdowns and safety accidents, and guarantees smooth compliance acceptance of workshops.
