Flow Rate Demand: Calculate the hourly steam requirement based on the extraction equipment's process needs. Generally, select a boiler with a rated evaporation capacity 20%–30% higher than the actual demand to account for pipeline losses and equipment fluctuations.

 

Pressure Demand: Confirm the steam pressure required by the extraction equipment. High-temperature extraction may require pressures above 0.6 MPa, while conventional extraction typically needs 0.2–0.4 MPa. Higher pressures usually lead to higher boiler costs and energy consumption.

 

Temperature Demand: The steam temperature must meet the extraction process requirements. This is generally achieved through the saturation temperature corresponding to the pressure. Special high-temperature needs may require superheated steam.

Fuel Selection: Choose the fuel type based on local fuel supply and environmental policies. Natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are clean and efficient, suitable for areas with high environmental standards; biomass fuels are low-cost and relatively eco-friendly; coal-fired boilers require consideration of desulfurization and denitrification facilities.

 

Fuel Stability: Ensure a stable fuel supply to avoid production interruptions. If fuel quality varies significantly, select a boiler with strong adaptability or equip it with fuel pretreatment systems.

Boiler Types: Common types include coal-fired, oil-fired, gas-fired, and biomass boilers. Coal-fired boilers offer high thermal efficiency but pose greater environmental challenges; gas-fired boilers have high combustion efficiency and low emissions; oil-fired boilers provide good flexibility but are costly; biomass boilers are environmentally friendly and economical.

 

Thermal Efficiency: Prioritize boilers with high thermal efficiency. Generally, oil-fired and gas-fired boilers can achieve over 90% efficiency, while coal-fired boilers range from 80% to 88%. Higher efficiency reduces operating costs.

 

Automation Level: Equip boilers with automatic control systems, such as automatic combustion regulation, water level control, and pressure control, to improve operational stability and minimize human error.

Safety Devices: Boilers must be fitted with safety valves, pressure gauges, water level gauges, thermometers, and other safety devices, which should be calibrated regularly. High-pressure boilers must also include overpressure alarms and low-water-level alarms.

 

Ease of Maintenance: Choose boilers with simple structures and easy maintenance to reduce maintenance costs and downtime. Modular boiler designs are worth considering for easier component replacement.

Installation and Space Requirements

 

Installation Space: Select a boiler of appropriate size based on the boiler room area and layout. Large boilers require sufficient space for the boiler body, auxiliary equipment, and piping; smaller boilers allow more flexible layouts.

 

Foundation Requirements: The boiler must be installed on a sturdy foundation that meets load-bearing standards. Some boilers may require special foundation treatment, such as vibration-damping foundations.

Economy and Lifespan

 

Initial Investment: This includes boiler purchase cost, installation fees, and auxiliary equipment expenses. Consider equipment price, performance, and lifespan together; do not sacrifice long-term usability for a lower price.

 

Operating Costs: Calculate fuel costs, electricity consumption, and maintenance expenses. Although high-efficiency, low-energy-consumption boilers may require a higher initial investment, their long-term operating costs can be lower.

 

Lifespan: High-quality boilers can last 15–20 years. Choosing reputable brands and reliable equipment reduces replacement frequency and costs.
